As I finished 2nd Corinthians the Lord led me to Deuteronomy. Lavender rests at the base of the window. A bowl once filled with apples is placed on the table.
Moses so intently tells this new generation of people to trust that the land the Lord has so fiercely promised will come to them if they keep their eyes on Him while rambling through the land of the giants. To leave the desert behind and run into the glory of the promise land.
Even though you are scared to leap because you’ve wandered through the desert for so long, even through your lungs are still burning with the scorched sand you’ve breathed in for your entire existence, He is calling you.
Sun rays beam so delicately through eyelashes. Warmth is flowing through my soul. He is calling you to a land He has promised. He wraps you up like a little child and carries you through the land of the giants. He holds you high above their deathly grasp. He shields your heart and mind from the harshness of the dessert if you’ll just let him.
Why do we dwell in the desert when a land flowing with milk and honey is waiting for us? Why don’t we leap into the arms of our Father who promises He’ll catch us? Because we’re comfortable.
I truly believe comfort is one of the many ways the enemy shackles us in bondage. Comfortable in the desert even when you’re being scorched by the sun, even when your feet are so tired and cracked from walking in circles, avoiding sitting down with the Lord to deal with the darkness because it’s so overwhelming, confronting the lies. It’s all comfortable. Not really, but to us it is. We would rather suffer in the presence of comfort, than be set free in the presence of change.
Moses. Even when He got word from God His people were defiant. Even when they were told about the glorious victories and land they were promised it still wasn’t enough. Not only did the enemy win them over with fear of failure, but the fear of change and trusting someone other than themselves.
Silent in his presence. Working on my heart. Birds singing sweet lullabies. Why aren’t you leaping, running with hands lifted high like a child to Me? Why are you avoiding the conversations you need to have with Me? I am the one who stitched you together so perfectly in My time. Don’t be frightened. I cast out all fear. Come my beautiful masterpiece and let me carry you to your promised land.
